March 26, 1916

Father,

It was great to see you after so long.

I know how you feel about the decisions I have made. They weren't easy. You have provided for me and to go against your wished was extremely difficult.

I hope you understand that baseball is what I am passionate about. It is extremely hard to put into words. But to put it as simply as possible, baseball is life in my mind.

With all of that being said, I can no longer do this. I am making arrangements to come back home to be with you. You said that your health has made you think twice about your actions. It has done the same to me. I cannot be in Boston while you are dying in Iowa.

I will be home in three weeks.

Love,

Your Son
