February 16, 1916

Son,

I have no other way to say it, than to just say it.

I'm dying, Clay.

This past week has certainly made me reflect on my actions. While I still cannot agree with your decision to leave Columbia, I've come to the realization you need to be able to make decisions on your own. It is your life.

I've had to made hard decisions in life, but I made choices so I could provide the best life for your mother, you, your brother, and your sister.

All I will ask of you is that you think your decision through.

Love,

Your Father
