January 25, 1916

Father,

I am in Richmond, Virginia. It's much warmer down here than in New York. I wanted to let you know I made it here safely, although I haven't decided if you care or not.

Yesterday, I pitched in front of owners, managers, and scouts. I was pretty nervous, but I did well. I only allowed a few batters to hit the ball hard. These guys are way better than anyone I have ever faced before, but I'm confident about my ability.

Hank Foote, the scout from Boston, looked very excited when he was talking to the Shipbuilders owner and manager while I was throwing. As I told you before, they select first in the draft and I'm not completely sure but I think they are considering selecting me.

Clay
